The Simplyhealth Great North Run

A big and mighty THANK YOU to everyone to donated for our three runners who completed the Great North Run.  – Mike Seaton – CEO, Evan Shanks & Craig Dart – CSSL Marathon Supporters.  A big shout out to Evan who ran the whole distance in his kilt!

Our running vests were sponsored by SIDAS, the podiatry clinic in Kendal that specialises in foot care,  biomechanics and orthotics; services and products you receive from their clinic is second to none.

The money raised will make a huge difference to our charity  and will help us to continue our work with unpaid Carer’s of all ages.

So far we have raised an astounding £1,373.00. It’s not too late if you want to donate uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/makeachange

Fundraising Event:

Iron Man Ian

Saturday 29th June 2019

Hi I’m Ian Woods, I’m married to Nicky, one of the Sitting Service Coordinators.

During the Gala Dinner last November, I was so impressed by Young Carer Kacey’s story that I thought I’d like to do something to both raise awareness and a bit of money for Carer Support South Lakes.

So I’ve signed up for Triathlon X Iron Man on the 29th June. An Ironman distance Triathlon is a 140.8 mile race consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22 mile run, raced in that order and without a break.  Most of these races are held on a flat course.  What makes the Tri X exceptional is the Lake District terrain.

The only flat bit of the course is the swim. Triathlon 220’s editor said: “The legendary 112 mile Fred Whitton cyclo-sportive bike route then the marathon up England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, makes the Triathlon X the world’s toughest full Iron Man distance triathlon,”

To be honest, I’m not doing this because I know I can, I’m doing it to see if I can. I want to do something extreme enough to justify some sponsorship at the same time as raising the profile of our Carers in South Lakeland. Hopefully I will be able to tell you of success both physically and monetarily in the Autumn Newsletter.

How Your Money will Help…

Counselling

The challenges of caring for a loved one can take its toll, affecting both mental and physical health. Carers often have heightened levels of stress which may lead to anxiety, depression, feeling unhappy or unable to cope.

It costs Carer Support South Lakes over £1,000 a month to run our free Counselling Service.

We have a team of 10 counsellors, dedicated to providing a high standard of counselling for our Carers.
